Alchemy is a mixture of original pieces of creative digital media work made by young people taking part in workshops, courses and projects at Watershed since May 2003.

The VJ Workshop section features a series of artist-led workshops, based around the skills of VJing, or video jockeying. Music and images are sampled or created from scratch, manipulated and combined using a range of software to produce new and innovative performance pieces, which can be played in the Gallery section of the site.

The Animate + section includes information about creative digital media learning at Watershed, during 2004. Twelve young people not in education or training explored the skills and techniques of image manipulation, digital animation, and video making, and some of their work is featured in the Gallery.

In the Resources section we have expert, Matt Black of Coldcut, talking about VJing with some tips and techniques, plus an excerpt from the track, Cooking with Coldcut, complete with kitchen visuals. There is an extensive links section for budding musicians, DJs and VJs, and an evaluation link where you can tell us what you think of the site.

Alchemy brings together the talents of young people who are producing original creative work through the use of innovative technology, and provides the means of exhibition and presentation to the wider community.
