A surprise performance by MC Punn rapping with a various sounds and visuals produced on the fly.
VJs.net workshop, Feb 2004, Watershed, Bristol
During this three-day workshop, young people were introduced to software and equipment for creating new VJ pieces by VJs.net artists and musicians, Michael Heap, Lara Houston, Seth Newman, Oliver Sorrentino and St.john Walker aka Saint. Matt Black of Coldcut was invited to present a demo of Cooking with Coldcut to show how recorded sounds made by real objects can be integrated into a VJ piece.
Source material came from just about anywhere; from favourite movies and music CDs, as well as from original footage created by workshop participants on the streets of Bristol around Watershed using digital video cameras. Some original music was added using instruments and the material was edited, manipulated and effects added using various software packages. Participants Niasha (MC Nushy) Haile (MC NRG) and Lee (MC Punn) made their own raps;
Mix Up Shit features MC Nushy versus MC NRG, filmed on location in Millennium Square, Bristol, while MC NRG and MC Punn performed live on stage on the final afternoon when the results of the workshop were presented in front of an invited audience. All pieces except those which are obviously derivative of well-known films can be viewed here in the Gallery.
