'Looking at the time' by Lyn Martin

I have a hundred clocks

They all go off at the same time

Two am

Time for walkies

Cock-a-doodle-doo.

Ringing, bleeping every hour

Time ticks all the time.

Ditch the broken clocks

I want good time-keepers

Not fast or slow

Dead accurate

Checking the time so that I can go by it

See how it’s going

Every second ticking away

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

If all the clocks in the world disappeared

I’d count the seconds in my head.

Listen to my heart beating, ticking

I’d watch the children grow

I’d keep my eye on day and night

On all the seasons

I’d watch my own face

Line, and greying hairs.
