'Marc Quinn's woman' by David Conn

Gran Jefferies, my gran, from Weston

She had wrinkles, she had white hair

Like wrinkled features

It is difficult when they’ve gone

To picture them on earth

So I try to paint a picture through my memories

It is difficult to remember her

When you can’t see her.

His picture brings my gran back to life again

In my memory

Life and death

New and old

The picture talks to me

About a woman I didn’t know very well

About the women that were important in my life

And have died and gone

He focuses me and brings them back to my life

I focus on their memory

The memory lives on.
