This section is designed for teachers of Key Stage 3 English, and provides a series of lessons that you can follow in the classroom to introduce students to the short film genre, develop the language of film, examine how texts can be adapted for screen, and engage in creative activities that show an understanding of both literary and filmmaking ideas and techniques.
You are invited to work on creative responses to the film with your students and to send their work to be published online as part of this resource. We aim to provide a constantly growing and developing resource to help inspire and encourage others.

Key learning objectives:
- to gain understanding of structure and language of the poem and how this is used to convey key messages / themes
- to gain understanding of the media language used in the film and its impact
- to gain understanding of the devices used in adapting the poem to film and the impact on the audience
- to develop awareness of themselves as readers and the reading strategies that they employ for text and screen
- to develop ability to analyse texts using appropriate terminology
- to gain appreciation of how it feels to be ‘different’

- an annotated video jacket for ‘The Wrong Flowers’
- a poem influenced by ideas from ‘The Wrong Flowers’
- a story which explains their own poem based on ideas from ‘The Wrong Flowers’
- a storyboard which shows how their poem could be adapted into a short film in 6 shots
- a presentation of the poem and storyboard
