Most of Tom’s art is based on his life within the hospitals, mainly Purdown, which has now closed. He uses repeating motifs like wishing wells and buildings, drainpipes, which symbolise different things in the hospitals. There are rarely any human figures in the paintings. When he does include them, they are usually powerful figures. The work is made up of intricate drawings, usually in black ink, and colour washes.
Tom’s been in Artists First for a long time.
