Robert Tooze 1944 - 2003
Sadly, Robert Tooze died suddenly in July 2003, and is missed by all who knew and worked with him.
Bob was one of Artists First’s founder members, playing a major role in its launch in 1990 and its subsequent development. He was one of the most committed members, contributing his art work to many exhibitions, from 1988 up till 2003. Bob believed in the importance of making art for himself and others, he was strong and single minded, and able to fully express himself through his art work. He realised the power of group work while never compromising his own individual style. Through the years Bob’s art work changed and grew in strength and clarity.
David Conn, artist and friend says
"I’m very sad to lose him, not to see him around again, that’s bad. I loved working with Bob; it brought real pleasure and happiness to me. It’s hard losing people... we’ll remember him through his art, his paintings, the lovely treasures he’s left us."
Roy Tanner, artist and friend says
"Bob was a nice chap. We got on well... he liked a joke. I think it was important for him to show his art. His abstracts, patterns, colours were very strong. He was a strong artist. We’re going to miss him very much."
