Sense of Place South West

This consortium of organisations took part in digitisation projects funded by the New Opportunities Fund. The aim of these projects was to develop online information resources that relate to the history, heritage, and culture of the South West region. On this site there are links to other Sense of Place projects that cover the rest of England.

The Dorset Coast Digital Archive reflects the cultural heritage, natural environment, and local histories of Dorset. The archive reveals a treasury of information and artifacts including photos, maps and learning packages which underpin the rich history of the region.

Devon County Council - Etched on Devon's Memory

This project aims to improve access to and appreciation of the rich iconographic resource represented by 3,500 topographical prints of Devon. They are presented on this website with historical text to provide an illustrated view of Devon in the period 1660-1870.

Somerset County Council - Somerset Time Line

In a project spearheaded by Somerset County Museums Service, there now exists an interactive and searchable digital archive system for users of all ages, including movies, ancient documents, maps, paintings, oral histories and items from exhibitions. Somerset time line presents the rich culture and historical diversity of Somerset focusing on two main themes, the Monmouth Rebellion and history of Glastonbury.

Tiverton & Mid Devon Museums Trust - Virtual Victorians
