John Frederick Anderson

John Frederick Anderson Portrait

John Frederick Anderson, also known as Fred, is the photographer who conceived, initiated and completed the reveal project over a period of two years from 2000 to 2002.

Fred is originally from Philadelphia, USA, and has lived all over the world including Australia, where he worked on a cattle station in the Kimberley before starting work as a photographic assistant in 1988. He then worked on a variety of photographic projects including national and international museum installations, the World Expo ’88 in Brisbane, and the Australian pavilion at the World Expo ’92 in Spain. Fred began as a professional freelance photographer based in the UK in 1991, lived in Bristol for three years between 1999 and 2002, and has now relocated to Barcelona, Spain.

During the time he was making reveal, Fred was also studying for a Master of Arts Degree in Documentary Photography at University College of Wales, Newport, which he has now successfully completed. He is interested in the representation of people and places through documentary photography, and in letting the pictures tell their own story. Fred has photographed extensively in India for Non Government Organisations and travel guide books. One of his current projects is to make a visual record of abandoned petrol stations around the South West of England.

Fred’s portfolio includes film and theatre stills, charity and community work in the UK and abroad, corporate and annual report photography, advertising, architecture and interior work, portraits and features for magazines and books. He teaches photography and continues to pursue personal documentary projects.

Contact Fred with questions or comments about the project.
