Geoffrey Taylor

I have worked at the Watershed as an Usher for the past three years. I enjoy this job because of the working atmosphere between staff and custumers. As an usher I get to see a wide range of films and projects.I work a lot during the festivals and enjoy absorbing all the different films from all over the world that are screened here. I get a lot of influence from this as a Film maker too.

Working here inspires and encourages me to continue working in film.

I mostly work in audiovisual, in a range of genres depending on the brief or job: documentary, drama, dance and music films. I mainly write, direct and produce as well as edit.

Recurring themes in my works are isolation and escape within the lives of very ordinary characters. In my work I try to create fantastical moments and twists within simple stories, whether it’s creating hyper-real worlds or just small magical moments within real life. Using short film, I explore how these moments change the characters’ and how it effects the audience by taking them into this other world, that they can still, in the end, can relate with.

I enjoy collaboration between the arts, using dancers, performers and musicians within my films. These enjoyable, organic experiences have yielded some of my most interesting and engaging works. I am currently exploring the relationships between dance and film. I hope to collaborate with more musicians and creative practitioners to continue developing my ideas.
