Oliver Humpage

Oliver hails from Lincoln, but came to Bristol in 1996 to do an MSci in Mathematics at Bristol University. A fortnight after graduating in 2000 he started work in Watershed’s ICT dept, was made ICT Coordinator in 2001, and hasn’t looked back since.

Outside of work, Oliver is a musician, playing in several orchestras and also a “function” string quartet for which he writes general repertoire and pieces to commission. He also enjoys writing unsolid rock pieces, combining blues chords, Bartok rhythms and Ivesian textures – he hasn’t found a band to play them yet though, so they’re reproduced at the exhibition on a computer. As for visual art, Oliver has always enjoyed abstract geometric patterns, which led him to create intricate mazes that are really bad for the eyes. Perhaps it’s a secret plot to make everybody need as strong glasses as he does.

Oliver’s role as ICT Co-ordinator at Watershed means he has to deal with everything from desktop support to networking to programming to server administration. His favourite areas are networks and network security, those being the nearest IT comes to pure mathematics.
