Stephen Tribbell
I have worked for Watershed for two years and continue to enjoy my job as Café/Bar Duty Manager. Although I work full time I ensure that I try to continue my art practice as often as possible. There have been times when my 'day job’ has spurred me on; the Watershed is full of interesting people and ideas and on occasion a film or a conversation has informed my work or encouraged me to get the brushes out.
I am originally from Weston–super–Mare but moved to Cardiff in 2000 to study art and aesthetics at UWIC. Since completing my degree I have lived in Bristol.
My art employs a range of materials and techniques including (amongst others) collage, paint, transfers, inks and solvents. It is my intention that the arrangements of the various elements in my work form a dialogue with themselves and the viewer, in short, as Heideggar put it, 'open onto a world.’ This, I call painting. For me, painting is a broad term which describes craft, drawing and perspective, composition and dialogue, it is not simply just about paint. I have included a small selection of my work here, I hope you enjoy it.
