A Media Sandbox 2009 commission that utilises social networking sites and search engines in live cross-media television game shows: studio contestants compete with members of the TV audience to solve clues that have been hidden around the Internet.

Apr - Jun 2009

With their project Viral Spiral, U-Soap Media set out to explore the gap between the active way we use laptops and mobile devices – sending messages, buying, exploring – and our passive television consumption. They wanted a television audience that could participate in and alter the outcome of a show.

Viral Spiral’s game show formats mean an audience can use social networking sites such as Facebook, Flickr and Twitter or search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing to compete with studio contestants by solving clues hidden around the Internet. These games draw on people’s existing knowledge and utilise existing technologies, so anyone can join in.
